Final voyage for HMS Triumph

HMS Triumph, the last of the Trafalgar Class submarines has made her final voyage, sailing from His Majesty’s Naval Base, Clyde (Faslane) and arriving in Devonport where she will decommission.

The last of the seven Trafalgar Class submarines, HMS Triumph was laid down at Barrow Shipyard in February 1987, and two years later she became the first boat to be launched at the yard using the ship lift method, before being commissioned in October 1991.

During her years of service, she travelled over 41,000 miles submerged without surfacing to Australia in 1993 and served in Afghanistan in 2001.

We want to say a huge thank you to all those who served on her and supported her over the last 30 years and have helped to keep the country safe as part of our national endeavour.

The T-boat class was a highly successful programme, delivering seven boats, starting with HMS Trafalgar, launched in 1981, followed by Turbulent, Tireless, Torbay, Trenchant, Talent and Triumph.

We are proud to be building on this fine heritage as we work to deliver the next generation of Dreadnought Class submarines for the Royal Navy – which will replace the current Vanguard Class when they enter service from the early 2030s.
