We currently have a vacancy for a Lead Cost Estimator at our site in Barrow-In-Furness.

As a Lead Cost Estimator, you will be developing, setting up and running an effective Cost Estimating Process, which provides pseudo-independent cost estimates within the APT (focusing on high uncertainty/risk areas and significant cost drivers) and provides recommendations for cost opportunities or focus areas.

Your main responsibilities as a Lead Cost Estimator will involve:

  • Building effective relationships with key stakeholders in the Parties, to facilitate an effective holistic end-to-end cost estimating process
  • Driving continuous improvement across cost estimating, both within the Alliance Programme Team (APT) and the Parties
  • Managing the requirements, verification, validation and configuration control of BoEs for the whole programme, as key artefacts within the overall Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB)
  • Identifying and acquiring (with the support of the wider Alliance) data in support of should-cost modelling, including previous performance data, previous estimates for the Dreadnought programme and similar programmes where parallels can be drawn
  • Ensuring consistency, accuracy and completeness of the cost estimate; undertaking analysis and assurance reviews of BoEs received from parties (with support of PCMs/PM Function) and validating and challenging based on should-cost modelling
  • Influencing the overall Programme Controls Strategy (as a means to bolster the capability and effectiveness of cost estimating) leading to improvement in the overall cost management of the programme
  • Providing insights and analysis on forward-looking Dreadnought programme scenarios (as requirements are received) and preparing timely and accurate reports into Alliance governance forums
  • Developing, setting up and running tactical toolsets for should-cost modelling and defining/influencing the strategy for longer-term toolsets
